Who We Are
The London Writers Society (LWS) provides community, information and exposure for new and experienced writers in and around London, Ontario.
The LWS welcomes adult writers at all levels: the writing curious, budding authors, writing educators, and widely-published authors.
Members benefit from meeting other writers at monthly meetings, workshops and presentations, tables at book fairs and markets, online promotion on the Author Profiles page and social media, and so much more.
As a nonprofit volunteer-driven organization, interested members are encouraged to participate on committees and in executive leadership roles. The LWS is governed by a Board of Directors and an executive team that includes the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and various Committee Chairs.
Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each month, excluding December, July and August.
Guests are welcome to attend one meeting before deciding to join. If you’re interested in attending, please click the “Be Our Guest” button below to send an email request.
Writing can be a fulfilling yet isolating experience. Join us. Let’s get lost in pages full of words together.

LWS FAQ
Answers to some of the most common questions asked by current and prospective members. If your question isn’t answered below, please send an email to info@londonwriterssociety.ca.
-
No, we do not provide feedback, editing services, or act as agents or publishers. However, throughout the year, we do offer workshops on various aspects of the publishing process.
As a member, it’s possible to receive advice via personal contacts you make at the London Writers Society. These connections are one of the key attractions of our creative collective. In particular, members who join one of our critique groups will discover a community happy to offer feedback.
-
The feeling of mutual encouragement, respect, peer support and pride within the Society is too strong for members to ever consider using another writer’s content or ideas. As our members work together, help each other, and support each other’s goals of getting published, the bond between us becomes very strong.
Moreover, in this era in which publishing is such a challenge, it’s unlikely that a member who overhears someone’s opus is going to rush off to publish it.
-
The London Writers Society is very inclusive. It exists for the benefit of all adults (18 years of age and older) who live in Southwestern Ontario and are interested in writing. Don’t disqualify yourself from joining because you think you aren’t a ‘writer’ or you’re just starting out. While it’s true that many of our members are widely published, many are beginners or people interested in learning about the world of writing. All are welcome!
-
Membership in the London Writers’ Society is $40 per year. This supports the society’s activities, which are coordinated by the elected executive committee of member volunteers.
