Janet Snider

Janet Snider was a high school science teacher who taught music, English and computer studies later in her career. Her studies, other than the sciences, included music and art therapy. She sang with several choirs in Toronto and, most recently, with the Woodstock Choralaires. In her mid-thirties, she decided to write more than diaries and ideas for stories, so summer mornings became her time to write. By the time she retired, she had decided to continue to write regularly. This decision resulted in the publishing of the Explorer Chronicles series. These books about Canadian explorers were written to augment elementary school social studies courses. They were successful and sold in the thousands to elementary schools and public libraries. They are still used extensively.

When she lived in Bayfield, she was active in the Chamber of Commerce. She wrote the Bayfield Business Retention and Expansion Plan, published in 2010, which became the model for future plans, including the one for Wingham in 2011.
